Top 4 Leonardo DiCaprio Movies
67
Despite a modest start to his celluloid career as a supporting cast member for the sitcom Growing Pains (1985-92)followed by appearances in a number of low budget horror thrillers Leonardo DiCaprio has rapidly risen through the ranks of Hollywood who's who and became a major teen heart throb in the 90s.
Leonardo DiCaprio is undoubtedly one of the most famous and talented stars in Hollywood today, and basically he has been on a roll since the turn of the millennium, churning out hit after hit after hit including (but not limited to) Titanic (1997), Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Aviator (2004) Blood Diamond (2006), The Departed (2006), Inception (2010) and Shutter Island (2010).
Here is a look at four of Leonardo DiCaprio's most acclaimed movies:
Catch Me If You Can (2002)
Co-starring Tom Hanks and directed by Stephen Spielberg Catch Me If You Can is the real life story of one of the most infamous crime artists of all time, Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio). Coming from broken household, Frank is in constant shortage of funds until he decides to put some of the tricks learned from his crooked businessman father to good effect. Frank successfully impersonates a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer and even manages to get engaged. But all good things must come to an end and Frank soon starts realizing that the long arm of the law is closing in on him and at its helm is the bright and seasoned investigator Carl Hanratty.
A subtle, funny and immensely enjoyable movie. Though not very intense, but very intelligent none the less.
The Man in the Iron Mask (1998)
Based on Alexandre Dumas' namesake novel, The Man in the Iron Mask is a sequel to The Three Musketeers and follow the lives of D'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis as older men who are considered to be role models by the younger generation of Musketeers.
However, under the oppressive rule of the King Louis XIV (Leonardo DiCaprio) Paris is about to go up in flames as a revolution is boiling in the belly of the city's starving, poverty stricken districts and Athos, Porthos and Aramis (who has now become a priest of considerable influence) are determined to bring his misrule to an end by replacing the king with his long lost twin brother (Leonardo DiCaprio) who is held captive in the Bastille.
But before any such plot can be successful, the trio must deal with their comrade-in-arms D'Artagnan, who has risen to the post of Captain of the Musketeers and responsible for the King's safety.
This is probably one of the most under rated of Leonardo DiCaprio's films, it is terrific period drama with generous measures of romance, valor and humor. A near perfect depiction of the Age of Chivalry in France.
Blood Diamond (2006)
Blood Diamond is a story based on the unethical trade in blood diamonds which has resulted in numerous disastrous civil wars in many African countries, most notably Sierra Leone.
When diamond smuggler Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) makes a deal with a poor native, Solomon Vandy it is merely a business agreement whereby Archer will help Solomon find his family (which was separated during the civil war) and in return Solomon will lead him to a large diamond whose location is known only to him. But little does Archer know that he is embarking on the adventure of a lifetime and making friends he is willing to die for.
Like many of DiCaprio's acclaimed movies, Blood Diamond is very intense and thought provoking and deserves to be taken seriously.
The Departed (2006)
The Departed is a classic mafia thriller from Martin Scorsese and co-starring Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson is based on the battle between Massachusetts State Police and the Irish mafia and their efforts to always stay one step ahead of the law.
It is the story of two young men: Collin Sullivan (Matt Damon), who is an inside man in the police force for drug lord Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson), and Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) who is an undercover agent trying to penetrate Costello's organization and their race against time to unmask each other first. Both Sullivan and Costigan falling in love with the same woman makes for an interesting subplot.
Easily one of the best thrillers ever to have come out of Hollywood. Real edge-of-your-seat-stuff!
